EMOTIONAL EATING

“The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” Lao Tzu Chinese Philosopher

When it comes to eating what a lot of us don’t realize is we have one brain, but two minds (the intellectual and the primitive) and we can blame evolution for that. For example, it does not throw out the very primitive parts of the brain just because they’re no longer useful. It doesn’t update them like our I-Phones. The primitive mind (subconscious) is all about survival and it communicates with feelings.

So, in the mind of an (emotional eater/sugar addict/fast food junkie) it’s like you have a Pro-Health Lobby (intellectual mind) and an Anti-Health Lobby (Primitive mind).

The pro health is rational and wise and it’s saying things like.

“What are you doing, you know you have to eat well to stay well”

“It makes you gain weight, which makes you more depressed and un-motivated”

“You know that eating in this way will increase your risk of diabetes, amputation, obesity and dying early”

However, that naughty Anti-Health Lobby might be saying.

“Sod it, you only live once”

“No-one is going to stop me eating what I want because I enjoy it”

“You only live once, go hard or go home”

“It’s a habit I can’t stop”

“It makes me feel happy”

So many of us focus on dieting and fad diets when we really need to concentrate on the reasons why we eat the way we do and what type of foods we eat and why. So, the way we think is the way we eat. Therefore, we may eat when stressed, happy, lonely or when we are bored. We may comfort eat. Dieting can cause some to feel deprived and unsatisfied. 63% of adults in the UK are classed as overweight. Many of us get into a vicious cycle of diet, weight loss, weight gain and back to diet.

However, hypnotherapy can help you not only understand why you eat the way you do from an evolutionary perspective, but also what happens in the brain when you eat certain foods. It will help you understand how you can change the way you think about certain foods, creating good eating habits, making healthier choices and at the same time not feeling like you are on a diet. Hypnotherapy can help you redefine your relationship with food by working with the subconscious mind, where your food related beliefs, patterns of behavior and associations are stored. I will help you learn healthier ways to handle negative emotions which will result in you making positive decisions around food. In addition, high stress levels can cause weight gain, so I will help reduce your stress levels.

By combining both solution focused hypnotherapy and gastric band hypnosis, you not only feel fuller more quickly, but you will have the knowledge you need about food and the brain to continue to make healthier choices.

GASTRIC HYPNOSIS

Gastric Band Hypnotherapy is a popular alternative for those considering gastric band surgery. It has a success rate of 90% and there are no “real” hospital visits. The reason it works is because we access the subconscious mind. I will simulate the entire process of gastric surgery under a trance like state. We will discuss every part of the procedure as if you were visiting a surgeon. Gastric hypnosis will reprogram your mind to believe that you are having a gastric band fitted and therefore your stomach will be smaller than before and after it will only accommodate a small amount of food. Remember, the brain cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination. So, your subconscious mind will believe it has happened. Each hypnosis session is tailored to the specific and stated goals reached by the client and myself during the initial consultation. This treatment is a four-stage process which includes; creating new alternative choices, a pre op session, the operation and gastric band adjustment.

Like everything in life being successful requires effort on your part. By playing the audio recording every night or consistently you will be able to change your eating habits and reap the benefits. Hypnotherapy is not for everyone; it can only truly help if you are ready to change the way you feel about food. But if you are ready to make changes, if you are ready to change the way you feel about food then it can help you move forward to a brighter future, full of enthusiasm, happiness, and a new zest for life.
